Background


Ben is an experienced Project Manager with a proven track record of delivering large scale projects within the financial services, healthcare and legal industries.

In his previous role he was responsible for the successful delivery of seven highly sensitive technical change management projects across the UK within some of the largest Primary Care Trusts in the country.

The Challenge

In 2014, having spent 12 months working in the City of London, Ben returned home to Merseyside with his wife to settle down permanently and be closer to family.

Having recently started a family himself, it was important for him to find the right role close to home so he could spend quality time with his family whilst building on his career as a Project Manager.

What We Did

Our specialist Software & Web Consultant, Melissa Houghton, contacted Ben after identifying him as a suitable candidate for a Project Manager role she was recruiting for at a global professional services company based in Merseyside.

The position required a strong technical understanding of software development and ideally previous experience in the financial services sector. This matched Ben’s background and was in the ideal location only a ten minute drive from his home.

This was an integral role for the client and therefore involved a thorough interview process with a number of candidates over a three week period. One of the main requirements for the role was for the candidate to have experience in Agile methodologies.

Although Ben did have knowledge in this area, he lacked commercial experience - which was the only concern from the client after his first interview. With this in mind, in the time between his first and second interview, Melissa worked closely with Ben to improve his skills in this area and conduct further research to make sure he was fully prepared for the interview. He was able to show his commitment to the opportunity and was confident in overcoming their concerns.

The client was impressed with Ben’s preparation for the second interview, especially in regards to the additional research he had followed up in Agile methodologies.

Melissa and Ben also suggested to the client that Ben would be happy to sit Agile qualifications prior to start date if he was to be successful in the role, which again exemplified his dedication to the position and interest in securing the role.

The Results

Ben was offered the position shortly after his second interview and has proven to be a key asset to the team.

In addition to this he has also been able to spend valuable time with his family and gain an enjoyable work-life balance.

Ben and Melissa remain in regular contact for him to feedback how he is finding his new role. Ben has since recommended Oscar to his father (who is also a Project Manager) and he has also been successful in recently securing a contract role, assisted by our specialist contracts team.
