“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jay from Oscar for his assistance and support in securing my new role as Network & Infrastructure Engineer.
Jay ensured lines of communication were always open, enabling me to discuss elements of the job with him - occasionally out of hours. The difference between the service I received from Jay and that of previous recruiters was the level of care and personal interest shown in my future.
I will and already have recommended Oscar Technology to friends and colleagues.”
Dan, IT Support Technician
Consultant: Jay Guney
Dan is an experienced Support Technician who has worked in the IT industry for more than five years.
In the last year, Dan has delivered two notable projects including a year-to-year Transition Project (that delivered the upgrade of 200 physical and virtual servers) and a SAN Re-Permissioning Project – spanning 11 Servers, across four Nodes and 37 individual Volumes.
Recently, Dan’s contract in the public sector was coming to an end due to the completion of the project he was working on.
Dan, a family man, needed a new employer quickly, but as he lives in a rural part of the UK opportunities were few and far between.
What We Did
Our specialist IT Infrastructure and Support Consultant, Jay Guney, discovered Dan’s profile through extensive resourcing of suitable candidates for a “hard to fill” public sector role. Jay then approached Dan about this niche fixed-term contract position in Wiltshire.
The client wanted two IT Professionals to deliver two IT projects – both on short-term, fixed contracts. The first project required extensive knowledge of Cisco and virtual servers, whilst the second piece of work required CCM programme knowledge and an understanding of emergency services appliances – i.e. Radio hardware support. Dan’s skills and experience fitted the two specifications perfectly and Jay presented the option of Dan to the client.
Having one person to do both projects meant the client was very keen on offering Dan the position.
However, there was still the big decision of whether Dan would take up a short-term and fixed contract over permanent work.
In the background, Jay was working hard to review long-term opportunities for Dan post-contract, as well as working with the client to see whether Dan is someone who could combine both roles into one longer fixed-term contract position.
In the meantime, Dan had found another opportunity with a blue chip organisation based 20 miles from his home. Jay then worked with him and re-reviewed his motivations for his work, and consulted on proposed opportunities with our client.
Both Jay and Dan came to a mutual decision that the role at the larger company didn’t fit his requirements and our client was the better career solution for him.
Dan was offered the position by the client and started work shortly after.
As part of our ongoing commitment to our candidates, we remain in regular contact with Dan to ensure that his “settling in” period goes well, and that feedback is communicated effectively.
He is still happily working with our client and is hopeful that his fixed-term contract will be made permanent later in 2015.
