Backend Java Software Engineer x 2

A widely known E-Commerce brand (they advertise on the telly) are moving a team up to Manchester from London and they are looking for 2 Java Software Engineers who will largely focus on the backend of their platform, working alongside Front Enders, QA's and of course Tech Lead.

This is the latest in a line of firms to tread this path, but is not one of the well-publicised supermarket chains, money advisory sites, greetings cards or a holiday bookings site.

The stack is fairly standard at the moment; Java 8+, complemented with Spring & Spring Boot, a Microservices architecture deployed on a mixture of AWS and Oracle. There are lots of API's that integrate with partners platforms (think SOAP, REST, XML) and the overall architecture is very much mobile-focused (mobile accounts for over 80% of our clients revenues)

Progression Opportunities - there is a mid-term plan to move more of the Engineering function north to Manchester so new teams will be created. If you fancy becoming a 'Lead' yourself, this steady move North will present opportunities to step up in statue and grow your own Squad.

Day-to-day - being part of a new team, you will help establish the culture in Manchester. The direction the product is taking is to improve the customer journey so there will be lot of work to improve existing features, but add heaps more.

Essential skills

  • Experience of developing scaled web applications in Java EE 8+
  • Strong all-round knowledge of Spring and Spring Boot
  • Knowledge of Hibernate / JPA
  • Experience with API's
  • Unit testing with Junit & Mockito
  • A good understanding of CI and CD

Nice to haves

  • Scripting with Python
  • Knowledge of AWS and associated services
  • JavaScript & Angular 2+
  • E-Commerce / Transaction platforms
  • Good understanding of Customer Experience / User Experience concepts
