The Role

This is a well-rounded DevOps role with a broad scope and plenty of opportunity to influence processes and develop your own skill-set. My client is a highly agile company with a relaxed culture but a common, driven attitude that has pushed this company forward since its launch in 2006. This DevOps role is about creating high availability and continuous improvement of systems for their clients and also internally. The company operate a large AWS environment with a mature and cutting-edge DevOps tool-set which is ever evolving and improving.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the supervision of the Senior AWS Architect to ensure the availability, security and operational suitability of all technical environments.
  • To monitor systems and respond accordingly and resolve alerts generated by the event management systems currently in place
  • To manage change in line with security policy, including patching and maintenance releases, code deploys
  • To provide incident support for customers with other team members
  • To work with service delivery and sales teams in managing the implementation of new customer's infrastructure
  • To act as the domain expert in customer interactions where technical consultation on implementation, configuration or root cause analysis is required
  • To investigate, record and resolve problems with infrastructure services
  • To facilitate the automation of deployment and management of Infrastructure services across the business
  • To understand and operate within the security policy at all times
  • To help identify and work with the AWS architect on service improvements, new technology and improved monitoring
  • To act as pre-sales technical support when required
  • To participate in the out of hours rota when required (1 week / month)

Requirements

  • 4+ years within a Linux Systems Administrator position - server installation and configuration.
  • Knowledge of scripting - Bash, Perl, Python, Ruby.
  • Knowledge of cloud (AWS) and large scale systems.
  • Passionate about infrastructure automation and configuration (Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Jenkins).
  • Passionate about cloud technologies (AWS Specific).
  • Experience of diagnosing at all levels within systems e.g. Infrastructure, OS platform and Server platform

Desirable

  • A degree in Computer Science/software development, which has involved significant, hands on experience with programming and software engineering principles.
  • High performance and high availability systems are our specialty therefore some experience in these areas would be advantageous.
  • Interest in Agile methodologies
  • Low level network knowledge
