    Director of Engineering - Utility-Scale Solar/Storage

    The Company:

    A utility-scale solar and storage developer is seeking to bring on a Director of Engineering to be the go-to expert reporting directly to the COO. They currently own 24 solar projects under operation and have more than 3 GW of solar and 2 GWh of storage in the pipeline.

    The Role:

    This role entails hands-on leadership, collaborating with project developers and engineering consultants to develop, design, and permit large-scale solar and energy storage projects. Reporting to the COO, this position will serve as their engineering expert in the United States. Most of their projects are located in PJM but also operate in CAISO and are expanding.

    Responsibilities:

    • Supervise and manage third-party engineering firms engaged in solar project design and development.
    • Ensure alignment with project goals, timelines, and quality standards.
    • Coordinate closely with internal teams to communicate project requirements and expectations.
    • Lead the process of selecting third-party engineering firms based on project needs and expertise.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with selected vendors.
    • Facilitate collaboration between internal stakeholders and third-party firms to optimize project outcomes.
    • Develop project plans and strategies in collaboration with third-party engineering firms.
    • Provide technical expertise and guidance to ensure project feasibility, efficiency, and compliance with regulations.
    • Evaluate and recommend innovative approaches and technologies to enhance project performance.
    • Implement rigorous quality assurance processes to ensure accuracy and integrity of engineering deliverables.
    • Conduct regular reviews and assessments of third-party engineering work to identify and address any issues or discrepancies.
    • Enforce adherence to industry standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements.
    • Monitor project budgets and resource allocations in coordination with third-party firms.
    • Identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements while maintaining high-quality standards.
    • Ensure effective utilization of resources to maximize project efficiency and profitability.
    • Identify potential risks and challenges associated with engineering activities and develop mitigation strategies.
    • Proactively address any issues or obstacles that may arise during project execution.
    • Foster a culture of safety and compliance within third-party engineering teams.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred.
    • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification preferred.
    • 5 years of experience in Utility-Scale Solar.
    • Experience in design, review, and oversite of solar and storage projects.
    • Substation experience is a plus.
    • Experience in the PJM territory is preferred.

    Location: This position will be remote but located in the Greater New York area.
