The Company

OSCAR are looking for a junior database administrator to join one of our favourite clients who are based in Greater Manchester, but the role can be almost completely remote. This is a traditional production SQL DBA position, and we are looking for someone who has some experience in the field but it certainly doesn't need to be much.

You will be working with a Senior DBA and have a great learning opportunity, but they are looking for you to come in and contribute immediately, you will get plenty of guidance but also plenty of visibility in the position

The role.

The company have a huge data lake and the team are responsible for delivering the right information to the right people at the right time, within a large organisation.

The position in a traditional production DBA role, looking after BAU performance of the database. The role may touch on SSRS / PowerBI but this is certainly not a requirement in any way.

We are looking for someone who is also happy to challenge what the developers say and think "is there a way we could do this better".

There is no-call rota for this position.

Responsibilities.

  • Monitoring, updating and amending existing databases
  • Creating and testing new database and data handling systems
  • Assessing the quality of all production database releases ensuring company standards are followed.
  • Installing, configuring and upgrading SQL Server across different environments.
  • Responding to and resolving ad hoc requests as required to meet business and end user requirements.
  • Monitoring, reporting on and maintaining the reporting activity and trends on the database servers and databases to senior management to enable a capacity planning strategy to be employed.

Skills Required.

  • Experience as a SQL DBA, ideally 1-2 years - something around there would be perfect.
