Principle Data Scientist - 3 days remote - Up to £90,000 - Saving Lives with Data

Role Summary

To realise the value held within vast data stores through utilising analytical tools to develop new products, design new algorithms & find new insights in the data.

This will be a senior role within our data leadership team and as such will work with both internal and external clients at all levels, helping them to understand their data and ultimately deploy new data products to make better use of it.

This role will be very much R&D focused and will have responsibility from taking ideas through to usable data products as well as evolving existing products.

Our ultimate ambition is to use data and technology to make roads safer and save lives and this role will be key to that mission.

For this role you can be based anywhere in the UK but will have to travel to the office locations for 2 days a week. These office locations are either in London or the North West

The challenge! - Saving lives using data.

This is a newly created role to tackle a huge amount of data and genuinely save lives as a result

From a data perspective the task is an interesting one - they generate 21 data points per second for each of their 250,000 clients and this data collected will have a huge impact in people lives.

Responsibilities

  • Guiding big data and small data strategies to interpret and predict human behaviour, proactively extending menus of analytics services focused on reusability and providing product roadmap input
  • Identify and qualify new data sources, sensors, techniques, and datasets to enhance insight
  • Analyze large, raw, and potentially noisy datasets to derive actionable intelligence
  • Interpret relevant insights from diverse datasets including time-series and geospatial data
  • Validate results using best practices in math and statistics
  • Visualize and present insights and models clearly and effectively to diverse audiences
  • Development and oversight of all analytical projects in the organisation
  • Sharing best practices and techniques with others, ensuring robust analytical practices across the organisation, as well as mentoring and coaching junior team members
  • Own ongoing maintenance of our existing data products and be the key SME. This involves the following
  • Checking that they perform consistently across time, identifying and resolving any degredation
  • Checking results are consistent and appropriate across sensors, both existing and new ones
  • UAT & Quality control for all new releases
  • Responsible for the ongoing creation, monitoring & distribution of performance metrics for each data product
  • Where the analytical products are used by customers, support them in understanding and adapting them to their needs
  • Our analytical products should continually be evolved to include new factors (such as distracted driving). They should also be evolved technically to ensure they are using appropriate models (i.e. learn from new technologies not just iterate current ones). Own the R&D in this area.
  • Be a key member of the Score steering group. This steering group will do the following
    • Monitor emerging trends from the score (such as complaints/queries) and build an action plan to resolve them
    • Agree the target/aims of the score and understand the consequences of the decision (i.e. should it predict risk/be explainable to customers/aid improvement of behaviour)
    • Agree the roadmap for the score and how/when any new developments from systems should be included

Requirements

  • Able to work across both commercial analytical targets and technical analytical realities
  • Python/Linux/Git
  • Able to think out of the box and come up with new ideas to improve and evolve our products
  • Strong analytical skills, strong model and software development skills and an open mind
  • Experience and passion for applying statistical and data mining techniques to overcome real world challenges - deriving intelligence from data
  • Experience writing complete, clear, and concise designs, data models, and algorithms
  • Highly proficient at disseminating complex technical concepts in both written and oral forms with the ability to communicate this across all levels of the business
  • Experience building data-driven software solutions with Python
