Software Development Director - Remote

£70,000 - £85,000 + bonus scheme

This is an opportunity for a highly driven Head of Development / Development Manager / Technical Lead to take on the role of Software Development Director within a reputable agency who have offices across the UK.

Within this role you will play a crucial part in decision-making, strategy, direction of the business and level up a small development team. The team that you will be responsible for work remotely with once per month meet-ups in their office based out of Cumbria, in the North West.

The software team are specialists in Ruby on Rails, PHP, Symfony, Laravel, Drupal, WordPress, and ElasticSearch (depending on the project).

Strategy

  • Contribute to driving strategic initiatives related to key business decisions involving people, infrastructure, commercial, software, culture and services.
  • Contribute to the evolution and direction of the business in the coming years by anticipating marketing direction, future market needs and emerging trends in tech.
  • Contribute to development of budgets year on year, helping to drive growth, attract new clients and retain current clients for the long term.

Development team leadership

  • Line management responsibility for the development team, with appropriate levels of support, guidance, and governance. Setting and monitoring KPI's across the department.
  • Take overall responsibility for the quality of work emerging from the development team. Providing feedback, mentoring and guidance to the development team as required.
  • Contribute to the development of business capabilities in all key areas of commercial activity by continually advancing and improving the techniques and processes used to deliver projects.
  • Incubate and lead a positive team spirit and culture.

Project contributions

  • Lead or contribute to client and stakeholder workshops both at proposal stage and at project milestones.
  • Receive and interpret briefs, present to, and elicit feedback from clients.
  • Evaluate business and user requirements on projects and apply the resources and write up specifications, user stories and other artefacts to ensure accurate briefing of the development team.

Experience:

  • Experience of leading software teams within a commercial environment.
  • Experience with Dev Ops and hosting.
  • Software coding or technical architecture role experience.
  • Experience creating architecture and data diagrams and other technical documentation.
  • Experience engaging with and persuading non-technical stakeholders to make good technology and software choices.
