Technical Support Analyst - Southport - Unix, Linux, Tomcat, Nginx, CentOS, RedHat, XML, SQL

The Role

An exciting opportunity working for an financial services organisation within an established application support team located in Southport. As a Technical Analyst you will be responsible for providing second line support to clients across multiple products, ensuring high system availability and performance of systems and solutions hosted out of the UK & EMEA. The expanding role and variety of technical challenges that emerge on a daily basis ensures that your day to day tasks are rarely the same and offer great opportunities for innovation and service improvement.

You will be responsible for all technical aspects of new system builds, implement changes to live client systems via Change Control and manage rollout of existing and future software versions. Working closely with your colleagues in Global Delivery and Support, and the Product Development and Business Support teams located in the UK, to ensure the highest level of support is achieved. The team also provide out of hours support to our clients as part of an on call rota.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose complex IT problems, implementing workarounds and rapidly resolving incidents
  • Proactively manage the assigned incident queue(s) as appropriate and handle user and system generated alerts/incidents
  • Implement changes into live environments.
  • Monitor the performance of our computer systems, proactively identify potential issues and determine resolution plans
  • Carry out system upgrades, patching, and maintenance as required.
  • Provide ad hoc support to the core IT teams (Development, Infrastructure Analyst, IT technicians, and Network team) to ensure the successful transition of new capabilities into the live environment.
  • Support system program and application changes/upgrades to proactively meet the developing requirements of the business.

Job requirements and qualifications

Essential

  • Experience in UNIX (Linux, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX), LDAP, Windows
  • Knowledge of deploying secure web applications on a JAVA/Linux infrastructure (CentOS/RedHat) with the following integrations possible: Apache Tomcat, Docker, Zookeeper, NGINX
  • Unix/Linux Scripting (Ruby, Perl, Python, bash)
  • Systems and application monitoring experience
  • An understanding of Relational Databases in particular Oracle
  • Good working knowledge of SQL
  • Good understanding of XML and JSON, usage and integration within web services
  • Experience in supporting Multi/Single tenanted application environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret debug and server logs
  • Excellent inter-personal skills with the ability to work well within virtual teams spread across multiple locations

Desirable

  • Experience with unit testing and automated testing tools
  • Experience with DevOps Tools - Chef, Puppet, Jenkins, Git, Salt
  • Security + Certification or equivalent - Java Keystores/Security keys
  • Atlassian Suite (JIRA and CONFLUENCE)
  • Familiarity with performance monitoring tools - Dynatrace
  • Experience of Splunk, similar tool or Business Intelligence is a plus
  • Degree educated or demonstrable experience in industry
