The Average Salary Range for Tech Professionals

According to Computer Weekly's 2017 Salary Survey, the average salary range for those working in the UK technology sector is between £50,000 and £75,000.

Over a quarter of tech workers receive this annual salary, with wages varying depending on region and experience for example.

47% of those within the industry with less than 3 years experience earn £35,000 or more with some earning up to £50,000, and 8% of this group earn between £100,000 and £150,000 a year.

More of those with less than three years' experience fall into the £100,000 - £150,000 salary range than the £75,000 - £100,000 range.

Despite these high salaries, many firms still complain that recent graduates lack necessary skills to fill empty job roles, even with the technology skills gap and high level of unemployment among tech graduates.

For those with less than seven years of experience, the average salary is raised to £49,012. This number increases again to £71,012 for seven to 19 years experience, and £79,064 for over 20 years.

Some roles in technology are currently on the rise, and cyber security experts and data scientists are currently the most in demand.

For IT managers or IT management staff though, they are beginning to get left behind. Developers and architects would expect to receive an average salary of £81,242 and those working in senior IT management would be earning a figure of £102,962. IT managers however are only averaging a salary of £61,839 even when they've been in the industry for 20+ years.
