Job Description

Database Administrator - SQL - York - Up to £40,000!

The Role

You will be responsible for maintaining the SQL Server data warehouse for the businesses. You will ensure the smooth running of the data warehouse and you will work with the team to develop integration packages, deliver reporting and other data requirements.

You'll be responsible for the development and sustainment of the SQL Server environment, ensuring its operational readiness (security, health and performance), executing data loads, and performing data modelling in support of the development team. The data warehouse supports an enterprise application suite of program management tools. You'll need to be capable of working both independently and collaboratively.

The role includes contributing to and supporting the Head of IT, Development Manager, Compliance and Support teams in the design and evolution of systems to support strategic objectives and business functions in a growing retail organisation embracing the latest technologies.

Responsibilities

    • Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.
    • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
    • Apply data modelling techniques to ensure development (inc. sandbox) and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations
    • Independently analyse, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end
    • Revision and change control specifically in connection with stored procedures
    • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes
    • Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement
    • Provide support for critical production systems
    • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
    • Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members

Database Administrator Role Requirements

  • Ideally 4+ years MS SQL Server Administration experience required
  • Performance tuning and optimisation, using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
  • Experience with backups, restores and recovery models
  • Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server
