Graduate Java Developer - E-Commerce

Fancy cutting your teeth in an innovative team that gives you the chance to take time each week to learn new skills?

I'm pleased to be working exclusively with a company in Manchester in their search for bright minded Computer Science or Software Engineering graduates that have a strong grasp of the fundamentals of Java.

You will helping to develop high-availability web-applications & e-commerce sites used across a global business. Technology used includes Java 7 & 8, Spring (Core, Boot & MVC), Hibernate, RabbiqMQ for messaging, ElasticSearch, AWS, Node.JS, Angular.JS, JavaScript, Kibana & Stash.

The team also have dedicated 'lab time' each week where they devise solutions to problems across the business, developing proof-of-concepts (several of which have gone into full-production) or using that time to learn new skills. An example of which was an iOS Developer who has since learned Android & the Java Developers that learned .NET.

Other things to expect are:-

What the client is looking for from you:

  • A degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Passion for continuous improvement & self-development
  • Ideally some previous experience of Java Development, either in a Sandwich placement, as part of study or even as part of your own self-development
  • Solid understanding of the fundamentals of JDBC, Servlets, JSP's, etc

Having an interest in:

  • Maven or Gradle build tools
  • Building RESTful services (JSON)
  • Automated builds with continuous integration
  • Agile methodologies
  • Other JVM languages such as Scala, Groovy or Clojure
  • How data can be used to improve business decisions
