Job Description

Scrum Master - Agile - Leeds City Centre - Flexitime, up to £65,000

The Role

You will be part of a dynamic technical team that builds solutions to support rapidly changing business needs and will zealously promote the Agile values and practices across the business.

They are a progressive and delivery focused business that prizes collaboration and lateral thinking. If you are creative and like a challenge, if you prefer to collaborate rather than working on your own, and if you like to make things happen, then this is the role for you!

  • Make people talk. They believe that Agile is about the right people having the right conversations at the right time. By promoting daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, three-amigo sessions and retrospectives, you will ensure that nothing goes unsaid and that the development team communicates effectively with other business teams and with each other.
  • Talk to people. Information is lost when people don't consider who they are communicating with, how they communicate and the context of what's being communicated. How many times have requirements been lost in a thread of emails or decisions left pending in someone's inbox? As the Scrum Master you will seek out those conversations and be able to adroitly choose the appropriate medium to communicate and record the outcomes of the discussion.
  • Measure twice, cut once. Everything that we do should be informed by data. As the Scrum Master you will be expected to report on the team's capacity, its velocity and the accuracy of its estimates in sprint retrospectives.
  • There are times when expectation to deliver exceeds the capacity of the team. As the Scrum Master you will be adept in negotiating a backlog that delivers value, albeit incrementally, while ensuring the technical team can make good on its promise to deliver.
  • Be transparent. To have the confidence of the business, the Scrum Master needs to be candid about the progress of the team and to encourage members of other business teams to participate in the daily stand-ups and sprint review sessions.
  • Make it safe. One of the key tasks of the Scrum Master is to ensure that the tech team deliver the work they commit to at the beginning of the sprint. This means ensuring all work is properly elaborated beforehand, removing any impasse that blocks the team's passage and challenging any changes to the requirements.
  • Agile is an empirical approach and it is the task of the Scrum Master to encourage the team to incrementally address its previous mistakes and to continue with successful practices. Also, the Scrum Master is expected to continuously develop their Agile knowledge and help the business to implement better processes that deliver value.
  • Last the distance. A successful Scrum Master is passionate about Agile working practices and embraces the responsibility for making each delivery successful, while at the same time appreciating the importance of enjoying the team's successes however small. Change is the fruit of perseverance.
